Something which many people seem to believe when it comes to Buddhism is that attachment creates attachments which in turn lead to suffering and inner conflict. This is a fairly common or widespread belief particularly among people who are trying to walk the 'eastern' paths towards mindfulness, so not just Buddhism, but also Taoism, yoga, and other methods, belief systems and practices which all seem to focus on the notion that desires are somehow bad for you. You get the same messages coming at you from organized religions. This is something I want to write about here which might make things clearer for you.
Attachments and desires are perfectly natural
Something I keep repeating over and over and over and over again is that all existence is change, all existence is relationship. You are born attached to a physical body, an extremely powerful brain, a powerful memory and equally powerful imagination, a felt sense of immediate experience, a powerful mind, as well as being attached to a crusty, fiery planet which is teeming with life somewhere out on the edges of a universe.
With me so far? Good. Onto my next point.
Okay so now we come to the subject of life. Life - the experience - is coming at you constantly in a vast multi-dimensional continuum of sensation and experience, consciousness and energy. It does not matter here where your environmental reality, that what you are experiencing, is 4D, 11D, 500D or 10,000D, your brain snd mind can only handle 3D and one, two or three variables at any given moment. When it comes to what's going on in the universe, and much of what is happening in nature, you won't even be able to perceive it, let alone desire it, understand it, or be able to put it into words. You're only a human being. Brilliantly creative, capable and imaginative as a primate species of ape, but still just one relatively insignificant life form among millions of others on this planet.
What this means is that, unless you've decided to become a nut and remain firmly inside your shell, is that life, the real life experience is a never ending sequence or narrative of mistakes, failures, contradictions, misunderstandings, conflicts, finding only one sock, missed connections on public transport, dealing with idiots and other 'fun' stuff.
