You've probably heard of the saying 'That what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.' Bullshit. The basis of this saying is a call to courage, which is why this saying is so popular. The principle behind this saying is actually sound and accurate, because trauma is force which forces you into a new karmic process. But the words are wrong as is the meaning and the intention. The issue here is our cultural issue to trauma, which is based on fear and even dread. Trauma, pathology, social issues, and so on are all seen in a negative light. What I want to do here is address this cultural misconception that there's something 'bad' about trauma.
I strongly suggest revisiting this saying and changing it to something like:
- 'That what doesn't kill you makes you human.'
- 'That what doesn't kill you makes you beautiful.'
