I'm going to start this post by referencing a 1987 song by Labi Siffre titled 'Something Inside So Strong' which won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Lyrically and Musically. It was a song written in response to Siffre seeing a documentary of Siffre seeing a documentary of white soldiers firing on black people in South Africa. It's a well known song about oppression which other oppressed people, such as the Kurds, have also adopted as a kind of an anthem. I'm going to quote you the first verse from the song.
