'Grease' was one of the most popular movies of 1978 which has become a staple of American culture, particularly among older Americans. It was both a musical and a romantic comedy starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and had a title track written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees but performed by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It was an incredibly subversive movie which seemed to target some of the staples of 'white picket fence' American culture and conformity. When it was released it received mixed reviews, but did incredibly well in the Anglosphere and seems to be a major nostalgia trip for many Americans.
